The Longmont Software team intern would be used to perform a
variety of tasks related to the creation and administration
of Software Teams development infrastructure. Reorganization
of the Software development teams Lab Equipment and creation
of custom Test Bench setups to be used in the development
process for SGI's next generation High Density Storage
platforms.

In addition, with the new SGI products currently under
development, the Software team will be creating a new
development environment revolving around the migration from
proprietary software build systems to Open Source build
systems, and the migration from a FreeBSD development
environment to a Linux based development environment. These
efforts will be supervised by the Senior Members of the
Software Development Team.
The successful candidate will gain real world experience
working with a talented group of Software Designers and
Hardware Designers that are designing leading edge Software
and Hardware technologies from the ground up.

The intern would be responsible for tasks such as:

o Reconfiguring existing Servers,Switches etc. to be used in
the development of the next generation of SGI Enterprise
Class Storage Systems.
o Creation of Custom Hardware Configurations using off the
shelf hardware to emulate certain functions of the hardware
platform being developed by SGI.
o Inventory of existing lab compute hardware.
o Reorganization of hardware in existing lab racks.
o Provide assistance with the installation, configuration,
and maintenance of our OBS system.
o Provide assistance with the creation of development
virtual machines.
o Documentation of existing lab networking infrastructure
such as DNS and routing, and compute hardware.
o Creation of development scripts to assist senior staff.
Job Requirements: The ideal intern candidate would have several of the
following skill-sets:

o System administrator experience with Linux distributions,
particularly SUSE distributions.
o Problem solving and organizational skills.
o Experience with computer hardware in a lab setting
o Programming skills in bash, python, perl.
o Good written and oral communication skills.
o Ability to document on one of more wikis.
o Ability to work independently and apply good judgment.
